Mariposa Studios will be a place like no other in the Southwest, where writers, directors and executives can collaborate, develop, shoot film, and complete all aspects of feature film-making. From inception, Masque Studios set out to design the a World-Class Motion Picture Facility in the State of New Mexico. More to the point, to provide a dynamic, state-of-the-art motion picture production facility where writers, directors and executives can collaborate, develop, shoot film, and complete all aspects of feature film-making ...every day.

The campus concept consists of multiple buildings orchestrated throughout an ‘enhanced’ natural desert environment. Site selection was based on adjacent open space with unhampered views.

The proposed studio site houses unhampered views of vistas beyond due to buffers of Native American land to the North and East. Upon arrival visitors are greeted by a check-in station located along Westfalia boulevard. This boulevard is planned to be utilized as private access to the studios beyond the checkpoint and designed as an expansive right-of-way to be utilized as overflow parking as required due to internal circulation restriction. Westfalia provides the vehicular circulation spine for the studio functions, while also generating a buffer to neighboring neighborhood lots.

    The Art Department will be located at the upper level. This space will have expanses of glass with views to surrounding vistas to assist with inspiration. The interior walls are intended to be blanketed with story boards and imagery. Natural light is an important aspect of the interior as well as thought given to data locations for workstations.

  • Filming / Sound Stages

    The Sound Stages will feature a full height panelized sound wall allowing for the division of each stage into two independent stages. The design concept is to externalize the buildings structure allowing for a structural component on which a movie producer can construct exterior sets. This exterior application is an important aspect of the filming stages, as their configuration to each other will generate a multitude of opportunity for set types.

    Stages 1 & 2 - 36,000 s.f. ea.
    * (2) 18,000 s.f. Stages w/ Center Partition
    * (1) 18,000 s.f. stage for Water Scenes

    Stages 3 & 4 - 48,000 s.f. ea.
    * (2) 24,000 s.f. Stages w/ Center Partition

  • Millwork Building

    The millwork building is a support structure for the manufacturing and assembly of sets utilized in the filming stages. Its location will be in close proximity to the filming stages for appropriate access and set component transportation. The facility will house appropriate equipment components for millwork, welding, manufacturing, etc. The building is designed as a pre-manufactured metal building for construction cost savings.

  • Post-Production

    The post-production editorial facility will consist of state of the art equipment necessary to compose a film and prepare it for delivery to the public. The facility will house AVID Mixing Bays, Server Rooms, Dubbing & Voiceover Bays, Sound Stage for 100+ piece Orchestra, etc.

    Editing Department - 8,500 s.f.

    Additionally, this facility is intended to provide the filmmaker with all aspects of editing and presentation with a 300+ seat Screening Theater.

    Screening Theatre - 3,500 s.f.

  • Corporate Headquarters

    Masque Entertainment Corporate Headquarters will be a stunning architectural expression that defines the essence of Masque Entertainment. The office will house a large reception / viewing area that showcases images and artwork of movie productions as well as incorporates a viewing window showcasing the production area where movies are being currently in process. The facility is the hub of the property and will host private parking by direction of the guard gate attendant. The structure will be tri-level accessing views of the distant vistas from the CEO’s office as well as from the production department and large patios with panelized glass walls allowing the space to generate large open areas to the exterior environment. The building is being designed as the pinnacle showpiece of the studio.

  • Parking Garage

    The property is to be managed by an internal parking garage utilized to house the office portions of the studio. The garage is being designed as an above ground structure located adjacent to the filming stages portion of the program. Guests and Employees will park at the garage and take various means of transportation throughout the campus to the various buildings. The garage will minimize surface parking and the footprint impact on the site. Cart paths will radiate from the garage generating an interconnecting network of paths for transportation, generating a purposeful experience within the campus environment.

Soundstage Exoskeleton

The filming stages will incorporate an exoskeleton structure designed to house exterior stage-sets for the purpose of on- site filming sets. The adaptation of a multitude of stage-sets will generate an ever changing backdrop encompassing the large expanses of sound stage building area. An external circulation system will allow users to encompass various levels of the exoskeleton for use in both filming and construction of stage-sets.

The interior will house an electrically adjustable grid eliminating the requirement of climbing multi level interior stairs as performed traditionally by grip & lighting trades. The grid will be sectioned into variable portions allowing for maximum flexibility for layouts within.

The largest stage will house an interior / exterior tank for use when necessary. The stage will house a removable floor exposing a multi-level pit which can be utilized for water scenes. At one end of the pit will be a large operable bay door capable of exposing an entire facade wall to the exterior with views off toward the expansive vistas. The pit configuration will generate a large range of flexibility to meet the needs of a films requirements.

The theory behind the sound-stages is to generate a fully flexible canvas on which directors can manipulate and construct within generating a unique for creativity as to filming options.
